Did you know that falls are the single biggest cause of injury for Kiwis across all age groups? While it is well known that falls become increasingly common and much more likely to cause injury after the age of 55, they are a risk for people of any age and at any time. This is particularly true during a New Zealand winter when things can get very slippery underfoot. As part of our service package, we offer water blasting in Auckland and this can help to greatly reduce the risk of falls on driveways and other paved areas.
Driveways, paths and other paved areas become very slippery when wet. Much of the problem is down to the build-up of mould and moss, which presents a major slip hazard when wet. While there are all sorts of cleaning products on the market that promise to deal with this issue, many of them only offer a short-term fix or they take a long time to resolve the problem. On the other hand, water blasting is an immediate and long-term solution to managing moss and mould build up on the surfaces we walk on.
While you can hire a water blaster and try and do the job yourself, we recommend you leave it to the experts. Rental equipment is usually of the one-size-fits-all variety and might not be suitable for the wide range of paved surfaces you have at your home, or business. For example, a patio surface is usually far different from a driveway surface, and using the same equipment on one surface might damage it, while being ineffectual on the other surface. That’s why you should call in the professionals, as we have the right gear for each surface.
Currently, one in seven New Zealanders are aged 65 years and over. About 30% to 60% of the people in this age group have a fall each year – upto 20% of them will require hospital treatment for a fracture. We’re doing what we can to minimise falls, be it around the home or commercial premises. But we also recommend contacting the ACC or your local DHB for more information on fall prevention in other areas, particularly within the home. Don’t just do it for yourself, but for your loved ones of all ages as well. So once you’ve called us and enquired about our water blasting services, get in touch with those other organisations and try and make your place as safe as you possibly can.
