Gutter cleaning is one of our more important services because guttering can cause all sorts of problems when it becomes clogged. A leaky roof is just one of those issues. So, if you’ve been dogged by leaks during heavy rain and haven’t been able to work out where the fault lies on your roof…then it might not be the roof! The gutters could well be to blame.
When clogged gutters cannot drain water properly, that water has nowhere to go during solid rain. The water rises up within the gutter and goes into overflow mode; it can easily get up under the roof, be it iron or tile, causing the edge of your roof’s surface and the underlying materials (usually wood sheeting in our experience) to absorb all of the trapped water. The water accumulates here and will gradually soak through the different areas of your home, including your roof/ ceiling. If that heavy rain is persistent, water just keeps coming in under the roof making that underlying material even more soaked.
The water that seeps into your home over a period of time might go unnoticed for a while. Eventually, though, it will cause rot and mould damage, and this could be surprisingly widespread and well away from the spot where the water originally entered. Do you notice a musty smell in some parts of your home and can’t figure out where that odour is coming from? It could well be water damage in the ceiling above you – and your blocked gutters could be to blame.
As you’d be aware, any water that drips into your home can damage paint, furniture, carpet, appliances, and has the potential to lead to electrical problems. And while you may have taken steps to try and stop this happening by having your roof inspected, again we remind you. It might not be the roof! It could well be clogged roof guttering. The accumulated debris might not be evident in all parts of the gutter – it might be concentrated near the downpipe area. So just because some of the guttering looks reasonably clean, that doesn’t mean there aren’t issues that need to be resolved.
We’re the people to fix those things for you. Contacting Tailored Property Services and asking us to clean your gutters is the easy and safe way to do it – and it could well be the end of that leaky roof.
